An ˜upgraded’ variant of its AH-1W predecessor, the Bell’s AH-1Z Cobra ,¢ features a new 4-blade composite rotor system, twin T700-GE-401 engines, self-sealing fuel tanks, improved energy absorbing landing gear and a fully integrated glass cockpit. It can carry a deadly array of firepower and munitions, including a 20 mm cannon, hellfire missiles, rockets and incendiary bombs.
For nearly 30 years, the U.S. Marine Corps Light Attack Training Squadron (HMLAT-303), based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California, has trained aviators and aircrews to operate a number of combat helicopter models commonly used by the Navy and Marine Corps — including the AH-1Z Cobra.
